Kolkata: A 49-year-old Muslim man, identified as Muntaj Sheikh from Durgapur village of Islampur police station in West Bengal’s Murshidabad, died under suspicious circumstances at Lalbagh sub-jail.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the family of the deceased has raised several doubts, alleging their son was murdered.

On 5th June, police carried out a raid in Islampur’s Durgapur area at night during which some people were arrested.

The arrested individuals were taken to the Bekibagan police camp, and Muntaj was among them. After producing them before the court, Muntaj was subsequently sent to Lalbagh sub-jail.

According to the police, Muntaj fell ill on 8 June, and was taken to the hospital, where he died.
