Dalits face brutal violence amidst rising hate crimes in Modi’s India
New Delhi: The Narendra Modi-led government in India has been criticized for its inaction against rising hate crimes and violence against minorities, including Muslims and Christians.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, over 1.5 lakh cases of crimes against Dalits have been reported in the past five years. The report reveals that an average of 10 Dalit women are raped daily, with a 45% increase in such cases between 2015 and 2020.
The brutality faced by Dalits was highlighted in the case of Rohith Vemula, who was brutally assaulted by police in Madhya Pradesh. Despite filing a complaint, no action has been taken against the police officers involved.
The increasing violence against Dalits has raised questions about India’s claims of being a secular country. The Modi government’s silence on the issue has been criticized, with many accusing it of turning a blind eye to the atrocities faced by Dalits.
