Kashmiris demand whereabouts of disappeared persons in IIOJK

Srinagar: Civil society members demanding the whereabouts of disappeared persons in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have called for an open debate about those subjected to custodial disappearance in the last 36 years.

According to Kashmir Media Service, civil society and human rights activists, along with relatives of the disappeared persons, issued a statement in Srinagar stressing the need for an open debate on those subjected to custodial disappearance over the last 36 years in IIOJK.

They urged the United Nations and other international human rights organizations to help distressed victim families trace the whereabouts of their loved ones and verify the names of unknown graves in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Islamabad, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Rajouri, Poonch, and other districts of the territory.

It is worth mentioning that Indian troops, paramilitary, SOG, and STF personnel have subjected over eight thousand innocent Kashmiri youth to custodial disappearance since 1989.

Civil society members said the police have a clear record of the whereabouts of youth arrested by Indian forces during crackdowns and house raids in the territory.

“The parents want to know about their loved ones – whether they are dead or alive. If they are dead or have been killed by Indian forces, let the relatives know or at least be shown their graves,” they said.
