India witnessing surge in Hindutva fascism since BJP’s rise to power
Islamabad: India is witnessing a surge in Hindutva fascism since the BJP’s rise to power in 2014.
According to Kashmir Media Service, minorities, including Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits, and Christians, are bearing the brunt of this rising tide of Hindutva fascism, with hate crimes against Muslims and other minorities soaring across India in the last decade.
Narendra Modi, a member of the Hindutva organization RSS, which follows a Nazi ideology, is known worldwide for his Hindutva-related activities. Under Modi, the Hindutva ideology has become mainstream politics in India, with the RSS-BJP combine hell-bent on converting the country into a Hindu Rashtra.
The RSS-backed BJP government has systematically implemented laws that discriminate against Muslims and other minorities. Modi’s extremist Hindutva policies have serious implications for South Asia and the world, and international human rights bodies must intervene to save Indian minorities and the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir from the Hindutva communal ideology.
Renowned Indian author and activist Arundhati Roy has criticized Western leaders for their silence on India’s human rights abuses, saying they know about the massacres, bulldozing of Muslim homes, and ghettoization of Muslims. Investigative journalist Rana Ayyub has also chronicled the rise of authoritarian Hindutva in India, warning that the country is on the cusp of a genocide against Muslim citizens.
The situation in India has become increasingly precarious, with the constitution effectively set aside and the BJP compromising the election machinery. The beauty of India is being reduced to something small, snarling, petty, and violent, and when this explodes, the consequences will be catastrophic.
