Blast at Indian ordnance factory kills two, injures 15

Bhopal: An explosion at an ordnance factory in Jabalpur city of India’s Madhya Pradesh state has resulted in two deaths and 15 injuries, with two individuals in critical condition.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the blast occurred today in the Kharmaria Central Security Institute Ordnance Factory’s refilling section, where bombs and explosives are produced. Operating under the Department of Defence Production, this facility is one of India’s key ammunition production units.

According to Indian media reports, the explosion was triggered by a malfunction in the hydraulic system, creating a shockwave that was felt up to five kilometers away, with nearby residents reporting significant tremors. M.N. Haldar, Chief General Manager of the Ordnance Factory, confirmed that a Pechora missile was being processed at the time of the incident.

Indian forces have cordoned off the area, preventing anyone from accessing the accident site, and an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the explosion.

This incident raises serious concerns about the safety protocols and control measures in place at India’s ordnance factories, highlighting the risks associated with their operations.
