Srinagar: Indian forces have intensified their clampdown in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, arbitrarily detaining numerous Kashmiris as part of the Modi regime’s persistent policy of suppression in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, over 150 people were detained during extensive operations by the forces’ personnel in Ganderbal district, while the police’s counter-intelligence wing arrested numerous youths across several districts. The forces confiscated their valuables including mobile phones, laptops and other documents.

Raids and arrests were launched under the pretext of an attack on laborers, which local eyewitnesses claim was carried out by the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district a few days ago.

Hurriyat leaders and activists face charges under draconian laws for their political beliefs, as Modi government repeatedly arrests freedom seekers on fabricated charges. Since August 5, 2019, India’s oppressive tactics to suppress Kashmiri freedom sentiments have intensified.

The frequent use of harsh laws to prolong detentions is seen as a severe form of political vendetta, leaving thousands of Kashmiris languishing in Indian jails. These prisoners endure inhumane treatment, raising concerns about India’s violations of the Geneva Convention regarding prisoners’ rights.

Despite these challenges, Kashmiris remain determined to resist occupation. They urged the international community to take notice of these unlawful detentions and hold India accountable for its actions in IIOJK.
