Hurriyat leaders, organizations call Oct 27 darkest day in Kashmir’s history
Srinagar: APHC leaders and organizations have declared October 27 as the darkest day in Jammu and Kashmir’s contemporary history, marking the date in 1947 when India invaded the territory and occupied it illegally.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Advocate Arshad Iqbal described this invasion as a “naked aggression” that lacked both legal and moral justification. He highlighted the devastating consequences of India’s prolonged military occupation, which he said poses an existential threat to the Kashmiri people. He criticized the Indian government’s actions as a brutal repression of the rights of Kashmiris over several decades.
Iqbal emphasized that the invasion constituted an egregious violation of international law and an attack on the political and democratic rights of millions of Kashmiris. He noted the historic resistance of the Kashmiri people, stating, “Despite suffering at the hands of Indian tyrants, the valiant people of Kashmir have never accepted its dominance over the region.” He reaffirmed that Kashmiris have consistently resisted Indian hegemony and will continue to do so in the future. “The day is not far when Kashmiris’ struggle and their sacrifices for the noble cause will reach fruition,” he asserted.
APHC leader and Chairman of Tehreek-e-Istiqamat, Ghulam Nabi War, in a statement in Srinagar said that the people of IIOJK observe October 27 as Black Day in protest against India’s illegal occupation of their motherland. He emphasized that 77 years ago, on this day, India forcibly occupying the territory and subjecting its people to state terrorism. He pointed out that the arrival of Indian troops in Srinagar was accompanied with a swift campaign of atrocities, killings, and forced occupation, actions that the local population has never accepted. He asserted that Kashmiris have been steadfast in their struggle against this occupation ever since.
Meanwhile, APHC leader Farida Bhenji, who is also chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, congratulated the government and people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the 77th anniversary of the establishment of its free government. She expressed hope that the AJK government would serve as a genuine base camp to actively assist the oppressed Kashmiris. In her message, she noted the stark contrast of celebrating the establishment of a free government while the people of IIOJK continue to suffer under Indian state terrorism, with over a million occupying Indian forces perpetrating violence against them. Farida Bhenji stated that this year, while expressing solidarity with the people of IIOJK, the best way to show support is for the base camp government to step forward and play an active role in liberating this part of the territory from illegal Indian occupation. She urged all parties in Azad Jammu and Kashmir to set aside their differences and unite under a single agenda to free Kashmir from India.
