BJP, RSS ‘tearing the Constitution to shreds’, says Congress chief

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has said that the BJP and RSS are “tearing the constitution to shreds” after the Uttar Pradesh Police blocked Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Sambhal, where violence had erupted during a mosque survey.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a delegation of Congress leaders, led by Gandhi and including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, attempted to visit Sambhal to meet the victims’ families after four Muslims were killed in the firing by Indian police at the Shahi Jamia Masjid on November 24. The incident followed a controversial survey of the mosque, leading to widespread protests.

However, the Congress delegation was stopped at the Ghazipur border by police, citing prohibitory orders in place in Sambhal. The leaders were forced to return to Delhi after being detained for about two hours, an action Kharge condemned as part of the BJP-RSS’s broader divisive agenda.

Kharge posted on X, stating, “The BJP-RSS are busy tearing the Constitution to shreds with their divisive agenda. Preventing the Leader of Opposition from visiting victim families in Sambhal proves this very thing.” He further criticized the BJP’s efforts to sow communal hatred, citing the ongoing destruction of democratic principles, including the undermining of the Places of Worship Act.
