UP’s 180-year-old Noori Jama Masjid faces bulldozer action
Fatehpur: A 180-year-old Noori Jama Masjid in Fatehpur district was demolished by authorities, despite the matter being sub judice.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the mosque, located in Lalauli town on Banda Sagar Road, faced bulldozer action after the mosque committee failed to comply with notices regarding alleged encroachment on state government land.
The demolition has sparked outrage among local residents and activists, who view the mosque as an important cultural and religious landmark. Protesters accuse the government of disregarding cultural heritage and have called for alternative solutions to resolve the issue without destroying the mosque. The incident has raised concerns about the balance between development and the preservation of historical sites, particularly as Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath government has faced criticism for demolishing mosques and madrasas across the state.
Over 50 mosques, madrasas, and Islamic monuments in the state are currently under threat of demolition, with many mosque management committees engaged in court battles to save their properties.
