Fire at Tamil Nadu hospital kills 6, leaves dozens injured
Chennai: A devastating fire at a private hospital in India’s Tamil Nadu state killed at least six people and left more than two dozen others injured.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the fire, which erupted at the hospital’s reception area on the ground floor in the city of Dindigul, quickly spread to the other floors, trapping victims in the building. All six deceased were found unconscious inside an elevator.
According to Police Superintendent A. Pradeep, around 30 individuals sustained injuries in the blaze. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Building fires are common in India, often due to inadequate firefighting infrastructure and frequent lapses in safety regulations. This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of similar disasters in the country. Just weeks ago, a fire at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh claimed the lives of 10 newborns, and earlier this year, six infants died in a fire at a children’s hospital in New Delhi. Additionally, a horrific fire in May at an amusement park arcade in Gujarat killed at least 27 people, including several children.
