Two elderly men shot in Manipur
Imphal: Unknown armed men shot and injured two elderly men in the violence-hit Manipur state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the two men were shot in their legs by unidentified attackers in Imphal East district.
Police reported that the assailants targeted Takhelchangbam Hemanta (55) and Yengkhom Kesho (56) at the Kongba River bank in the Heingang police station area. The attackers reportedly arrived at the scene, opened fire on the two men, specifically aiming at their legs, and fled the area.
Local residents who witnessed the attack quickly came to the aid of the injured and rushed them to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal for medical treatment.
In a separate incident, armed men shot dead two migrant workers, Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17), near the panchayat office in Keirak on Kakching-Wabagai Road in Kakching district last night. The victims were riding bicycles with a few others when the attack occurred.
Meanwhile, Indian police have arrested eight cadres of the pro-independence Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) (KCP-PWG) in connection with the incidents.
