NIA’s fabricated cases fuel harassment and fear among Kashmiris
Srinagar: India’s notorious National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted searches in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and three Indian states in connection with a so-called smuggling of prohibited weapons.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the searches were carried out at 17 locations. However, critics argue that such operations disproportionately target Kashmiri civilians, often on dubious grounds, creating a pervasive climate of fear and harassment.
Human rights activists assert that these actions are part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent in IIOJK and tighten New Delhi’s control over the territory. Advocacy groups maintain that the cases are often fabricated, criminalizing Kashmiris to portray them as security threats while justifying heavy-handed measures.
Observers emphasize the need for impartial oversight to curb the misuse of Indian agencies and ensure that justice prevails for the beleaguered Kashmiri population.
