Protest outside CM’s House in IIOJK against Reservation Policy

Srinagar: National Conference leader and Member of Indian Parliament Agha Ruhullah today reached outside the official residence of occupied Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Gupkar to protest over the Reservation Policy row.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Agha Ruhullah started the protest march from Burn Hall School and reached outside the CM’s residence, demanding a rational Reservation Policy for Jammu and Kashmir.

Legislators, including Sheikh Khursheed and Waheed ur Rehman Parra, also joined the protest. PDP leader and Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti also arrived at the spot.

Agha Ruhullah, whose party National Conference is in power in Jammu and Kashmir, had on Sunday urged people to join the protest in a peaceful and dignified manner outside chief minister Omar Abdullah’s residence.

Calls for revocation of reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir have been getting louder with the student association, several leaders and political parties extending support to the protest.

The policy introduced by lieutenant governor-led administration, before the assembly elections early this year, had squeezed the general category to 40 percent, which form the majority of the population, and increased reservation for reserved categories to 60 percent.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters at the protest site, Ruhullah said he got an intimation from inside CM’s house that a student delegation be sent that will meet the chief minister.

He said that they would choose five students, one each from central, south and north Kashmir, and one from Jammu and a female student to meet the chief minister.

He said that the delegation will put forth their demands and discuss the issue with the chief minister. “We will not move from here till students come out after meeting the chief minister,” he said.

PDP legislator Waheed ur Rehman Parra on the occasion said they want a time-bound revocation of the policy and that merit holders should not be made to suffer.
