PDP leader slams prolonged power cuts in IIOJK as life-threatening
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced strong concerns over the worsening power crisis in the Kashmir Valley during the ongoing severe cold wave, stating that the authorities are endangering lives.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement, PDP General Secretary and former legislator Mohammad Khurshid Alam denounced the erratic power supply and extended outages, saying they have plunged the Valley’s residents into severe distress. Alam particularly highlighted the plight of patients relying on oxygen concentrators, which are a critical lifeline for individuals with pulmonary conditions that have surged in the post-COVID era.
“Electricity is essential for operating oxygen concentrators. With daily power cuts lasting 8 to 9 hours, these life-saving devices have become unusable. There are reports of lives being lost due to power outages. This administration is playing with people’s lives,” Alam said.
Alam called on the authorities to recognize electricity as an essential service, especially during the harsh winter months when outages could have fatal consequences.
The PDP leader’s comments come amid mounting public frustration over the transmission of a significant portion of locally produced electricity to Indian states, leaving the Kashmiri population in the lurch.
