Discovery of dead bodies escalates amid activation of VDGs in Jammu
Jammu: The discovery of a male dead body in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, on Thursday morning has raised fresh concerns about the surge in such incidents since the activation of Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, officials confirmed that the body, likely belonging to a Sikh man, was found lying on Nai Basti’s main road. The body has been shifted to a hospital in Jammu for medico-legal formalities. A case has been registered under Section 194 BNSS, and investigations are underway.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern observed since the activation of VDGs in the region. Reports suggest an increase in mysterious deaths, particularly in areas under heavy militarization or where VDGs have been deployed. Critics argue that the militarization of civilian populations under the guise of security measures is creating an atmosphere of fear and lawlessness, leading to such incidents.
