Article: Pakistan and Kashmir: A bond beyond the borders

Shaikh Abdul Majid
Every year on February 5, the people of Pakistan and Kashmir around the globe reaffirm their deep-rooted brotherhood, standing together in unwavering support for the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
This day is not just an occasion for commemoration—it is a powerful statement to the world that the hearts of Pakistanis and Kashmiris beat as one, united by their shared struggle for justice, freedom, and self-determination.
The relationship between Pakistan and Kashmir is not merely political; it is a connection rooted in history, faith, geography, and shared aspirations. The sacrifices of countless Kashmiri martyrs have strengthened this bond, making Kashmir an unfinished chapter in the history of Pakistan’s independence.
Despite facing one of the world’s most militarized occupations, the people of Kashmir have never surrendered. Their unbreakable spirit continues to defy oppression, proving that no amount of force can suppress the desire for freedom. The new generation of Kashmiris, born into resistance, is more determined than ever to achieve their rightful destiny—Azadi (freedom). The existence and strength of Pakistan are important for the Kashmiri Muslims, and they think that even though they are not a part of Pakistan yet, their religious and cultural ties run so deep that if Pakistanis are hurt, the hearts of Kashmiris bleed for them.
In view of these unalterable ties, for over seven decades, the people of Kashmir have endured brutal oppression, illegal occupation, and human rights violations at the hands of India. However, despite these atrocities, their resolve remains unshaken. Their struggle for freedom continues, fueled by Pakistan’s unwavering diplomatic, political, and moral support.
Since the partition of the subcontinent in 1947, Pakistan has been the foremost advocate for Kashmir’s right to self-determination, as promised under United Nations resolutions. On February 5, the entire nation of Pakistan pauses to remember the sufferings of their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Across the country, rallies, seminars, solidarity marches, and special prayers are held to express unwavering support for Kashmir’s freedom movement. From Kashmir to Karachi, the streets echo with slogans of “Kashmir Banega Pakistan” (Kashmir will become Pakistan).
The government of Pakistan, civil society, and media outlets dedicate the day to highlighting Indian illegal occupation and human rights abuses in IIOJK and sending a strong message “Pakistan will never abandon Kashmir”. Pakistan’s stance is clear—it will continue to support the Kashmiri people diplomatically, politically, and morally until their right to self-determination is fully realized. The observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day is not limited to Pakistan—it is recognized globally, serving as a powerful reminder to the international community of the atrocities being committed in IIOJK.
For decades, India has suppressed the voices of Kashmiris through Military occupation, curfews illegal detentions, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, torture Media blackouts and suppression of dissent.
Despite India’s relentless attempts to silence the Kashmiri people, their voices have reached the global stage, because Pakistan has consistently raised the Kashmir issue in United Nations (UN), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), European Union (EU), and other international forums, that helps expose India’s false narratives and reaffirms the need for a peaceful resolution based on justice and international law.
Pakistan’s support is not just symbolic—it is an eternal commitment. The solidarity expressed on February 5 is a reminder to India and the world that the Kashmir dispute is far from over. The struggle for justice and self-determination is alive, and no amount of military aggression, demographic changes, or propaganda can erase the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is a promise—a promise that Pakistan will never abandon its Kashmiri brethren. It is a vow that no matter how much time passes, the bond between Pakistan and Kashmir will remain unshakeable. The echoes of “Kashmir Banega Pakistan” grow stronger with every passing day, sending a clear message to the world:
“Pakistan stands with Kashmir—yesterday, today, and always.”
