Muslim Congress MP Raqeebul Husain assaulted in Assam
Guwahati: Congress Member of Parliament Raqeebul Husain, along with his personal security officer (PSO), was attacked by a group of masked assailants in the BJP-ruled Assam state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place in Nagaon district when MP Husain was en route to attend a party meeting. The attackers, who were armed with cricket bats, left MP Raqeebul Husain and his PSO injured.
The attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of political figures in the region.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Bora condemned the attack, calling it a direct failure of the Chief Minister and the state’s law enforcement. “If the police fail to take action against the attackers, we will be forced to accept that Assam is under a jungle raj,” Bora declared. He further stated that the ruling BJP is using the police as a political weapon and that the state government has failed to take action in previous incidents of violence against Congress leaders and workers.
Bora demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack on Husain, reiterating the need for stronger protection for the MP. “We cannot allow the continued targeting of Congress leaders without consequence,” he added.
Raqeebul Husain is a prominent political figure in Assam, having served as a five-time MLA before winning the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat last year by an overwhelming margin of over 10 lakh votes.
