Indian soldier killed in Baramulla, clashes heighten tensions in Uri

Srinagar: An Indian army soldier was killed in an attack in Baramulla district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the soldier was killed during a military operation in Uri area of the district. Indian official sources confirmed that one soldier was killed during the operation, led by Indian Army and Border Action Team in the area.

Reports said fresh house-to-house searches were launched in Uri, sparking intense resentment among locals who complained that Indian forces were using search operations as a pretext for arrests and harassment. Some media reports said that clashes broke out between Indian troops and residents, leaving at least three soldiers injured.

Tensions have escalated in the valley after Indian politicians blamed local people for the recent Pahalgam incident despite the deployment of over one million troops in the territory. Locals say additional army units are being stationed to tighten the illegal occupation, while collective punishment of residents will only fuel further resentment and resistance. They added that search operations are not against militancy but excuses to silence voices for freedom.
