6 years on: 50-bed hospital in Kupwara remains incomplete
Srinagar: Residents of Kulangam in Kupwara district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are growing increasingly frustrated as the construction of a 50-bed Ayush hospital remains incomplete, more than six years after work began.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the project was originally slated for completion in 2022, but delays have left locals disappointed and underserved.
Locals say the hospital, once completed, would serve as a vital healthcare facility for the entire district, significantly improving medical services in the region.
“Following approval, the construction was started in 2019 but after the passage of over six years, authorities have failed to accomplish the construction of this hospital. Even though several deadlines have passed, the authorities are yet to complete the project,” a local from Kulangam told the media, wishing anonymity.
The residents said that they have approached the concerned authorities several times for accomplishing the project but to no avail.
The prolonged delay has also resulted in a sharp increase in costs. “The estimated cost has escalated from Rs 7 crore to Rs 11 crore, and further halts could push it even higher,” said another resident.
