Hurriyat leadership seeks global help to end India’s Kashmir occupation

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has urged the international community to come forward and help the oppressed people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in ending India’s decades-old occupation of their homeland.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said India has been occupying a large part of Jammu and Kashmir militarily and illegally for the past 78 years. He said every year, Kashmiris across the world observe October 27 as Black Day to reaffirm their rejection of India’s illegal occupation and their resolve to continue the freedom struggle till complete liberation.

APHC leaders including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, Hafiza Fehmida, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, Fayaz Hussain Jafari, Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi, representatives of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Muslim Conference, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, and others, in their separate statements in Srinagar, said the Kashmiris’ just struggle for freedom cannot be suppressed through military might.

Meanwhile, APHC-AJK leaders including Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Altaf Hussain Wani, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Shaikh Yaqoob, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, Syed Yusuf Naseem, Shameem Shawl, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Mushtaq Ahmed, Syed Gulshan Iqbal, Zahid Ashraf, Zahid Safi, Altaf Ahmed Butt, Aijaz Rehmani, Haji Sultan Bhut, Sheikh Majid, Imtiaz Wani, Adeel Wani, and others, in their statements, described October 27 as the darkest day in Kashmir’s modern history.

They said India’s naked military aggression on this day in 1947 was the root cause of the Kashmir dispute, which continues to endanger peace and stability in South Asia even after more than seven decades. They pointed out that the UN Security Council resolutions—endorsed by India’s own representatives, including then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru—clearly call for a free and impartial plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to the recurring confrontations between India and Pakistan, the leaders said the unresolved dispute remains a constant threat to regional and global peace. They emphasized that it was high time the international community took cognizance of India’s prolonged military occupation and played its role in settling the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
