India intensifies crackdown in Jammu region, civilians summoned to police stations, questioned

Jammu: In yet another sweeping operation aimed at intimidating locals, Indian police have launched a fresh crackdown on so-called Over Ground Workers (OGWs), former detainees and families of pro-freedom activists across Doda, Kathua, and Rajouri districts of Jammu region in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police and paramilitary personnel conducted raids at multiple locations in Doda and Kathua districts, summoning dozens of residents for questioning over alleged links with relatives based in Pakistan or Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
tools of harassment and collective punishment.
SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma, admitted that the raids were mainly focused on homes of martyred youth and their relatives settled in Pakistan or Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Several people were detained, and inspections were conducted at mobile SIM vendor outlets. SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta, stated that the operation was part of a “broader strategy” to track alleged support networks — a justification often used to suppress dissent and criminalize local resistance.
Similar raids were reported in Rajouri district, where Indian police searched the houses of civilians. Officials said digital and electronic devices were seized during the hours-long operations. Locals described the actions as politically motivated and part of India’s ongoing efforts to instill fear among the Kashmiri population.
Observers noted that such arbitrary detentions, home searches, and profiling of civilians are carried out routinely across IIOJK under the pretext of counterinsurgency, reflecting India’s deepening military grip and its continued policy of silencing voices of dissent.
