ICC’s open alignment with India pushes world cricket into self-made crisis

Islamabad: The International Cricket Council’s (ICC’s) open alignment with India has pushed world cricket into a self-made crisis.

According to Kashmir Media Service, by coercing Pakistan and ignoring Bangladesh’s security concerns, the ICC has effectively become an Indian Cricket Council, willing to sacrifice the game’s integrity to shield one board.

The ICC’s transformation into an “Indian Cricket Council” is no longer perception, it is measurable in numbers. By bullying Pakistan and ignoring Bangladesh’s security concerns, the ICC is engineering losses that will damage every cricketing nation, not protect the game.

If Pakistan and Bangladesh do not participate in the T20 World Cup 2026, the ICC faces an estimated $200–300 million collapse in tournament value from reduced broadcast rights, sponsorship pullbacks, and legal disputes. The single India–Pakistan match alone is worth $50 million (Rs 200–300 crore) in advertising and broadcast revenue, drawing 500+ million global viewers. Losing it slashes global viewership by 10–20pc, weakening future media rights valuations including India’s own $3 billion broadcast cycle.

India, despite its dominance, is not immune. As co-host, BCCI stands to lose Rs 200–500 crore per event from missed marquee matches, diluted sponsorships, and lower TRPs (5–20pc drop). Broadcasters could lose

Rs 300 crore in premium ad sales, triggering compensation claims that rebound on the ICC and its biggest stakeholder India.

Pakistan and Bangladesh have taken a principled stand, yet the ICC ignores two sovereign boards opposing coercion by one. This cartel-style governance risks fragmenting world cricket. When fairness collapses, everyone pays including the power that caused it.

Media StartCom Plan
• Unified statements by MNAs/MPAs across government and opposition supporting boycott not to play with India.
• Frame decision as principled stand against India’s terrorism in Balochistan.
• Highlight Indian state/national media glorifying internationally designated terrorists.
• Emphasize Pakistan’s moral, legal, and security rationale internationally.
• Urge global media and sports bodies to take notice.
