Another Tejas fighter jet crashes in India
New Delhi: A domestically developed Tejas fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed while landing after a routine training sortie, officials confirmed.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian Air Force has ordered a high-level court of inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident and has initiated a comprehensive technical inspection of the entire Tejas fleet.
The crashed aircraft was among the 32 single-seat Tejas jets delivered by state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under the Light Combat Aircraft program. The incident comes at a time when the Air Force is already facing delays in the delivery of the upgraded Tejas Mark 1A variant, despite placing orders for 180 aircraft to strengthen its combat squadrons.
This marks the third major accident involving the Tejas program in recent years. In March 2024, a Tejas jet crashed near Jaisalmer, while another aircraft was lost during the Dubai Air Show in November 2025, resulting in the death of the pilot. The repeated incidents have intensified scrutiny over India’s indigenous fighter aircraft program and maintenance standards.
