Islamabad: On the occasion of World Water Day being observed, today, experts and analysts have warned that India is increasingly using water as an instrument of war against Pakistan, posing a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
According to Kashmir Media Service, experts said the regime led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is deliberately manipulating water resources to create shortages and chaos in Pakistan under a broader strategic design.
They maintained that India has been attempting to establish regional hegemony by controlling transboundary water flows, particularly through its actions related to the Indus Waters Treaty. They pointed out that recent unilateral steps affecting the treaty framework reflect a pattern of using water as a political and strategic tool.
Experts warned that India has been diverting river courses, especially during monsoon seasons, at times releasing excessive water towards Pakistan, causing floods and widespread destruction, while at other times restricting flows to create artificial shortages.
They said such actions are aimed at damaging Pakistan’s agriculture by turning fertile, grain-producing lands into barren areas, thereby undermining food security and economic stability.
The analysts further cautioned that the weaponization of water, particularly during natural disasters, amounts to a violation of international norms and agreements and could escalate tensions in the region.
Highlighting the broader implications, they said India’s actions pose a grave threat to regional stability and could trigger a humanitarian crisis if left unchecked.
The experts urged the international community and global organizations to take serious notice of the situation and press India to adhere to international laws and ensure fair sharing of water resources, especially during critical periods such as floods and droughts.
