Tamil Nadu observes ‘Black Flag’ protest on Stalin’s call against delimitation

Chennai: Tamil Nadu is observing a statewide ‘black flag’ protest today following Chief Minister M K Stalin’s call against the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Stalin, president of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), had announced the protest after an emergency meeting of party MPs and district secretaries, warning New Delhi of serious consequences if Tamil Nadu’s concerns were ignored.

“The sword that hung over our heads has now descended upon us,” he said, terming the delimitation amendment a “massive, historic injustice” against Tamil Nadu and the southern states.

Black flags have gone up across homes and public spaces in the state as part of the agitation. Stalin had accused the BJP of “playing with fire” and warned that the Union government would pay a “heavy price” if it refused to respect Tamil Nadu’s voice. “This is not about parties or individuals. It is about protecting the rights of our people,” Stalin said, urging MPs across India to unite against what he called a “grave danger” to federalism. He said the draft delimitation bill, set to be tabled in Parliament today, would disproportionately boost the political power of northern states. Stalin has been mobilising non-BJP ruled states on the issue, with leaders from Kerala, Telangana, Punjab, and Karnataka joining earlier deliberations in Chennai.
