DFP condemns loss of Kashmiri youth, demands impartial probe, justice

‎Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party has strongly condemned the recent killing of a youth, Tanveer Ahmed Chopan, by a gang of cow vigilantes in the Ramban area of Jammu, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and cold-blooded murder of Ganderbal youth Rashid Mughal in a staged fake encounter by the Indian army.

According to Kashmir Media Service, 25-year-old Tanveer was travelling from Jammu to his native village Mundkhal in Pogal, Ramban, in a mini-truck carrying a cow and two calves when he was intercepted in the Kamarkote area. He was attacked by individuals linked to Hindutva groups, including BJP, RSS and Bajrang Dal, under the pretext of so-called ‘gau raksha’ (cow protection).

During the assault, Tanveer reportedly attempted to flee but went missing near Makarkote along the Srinagar–Jammu highway in the Ramsoo area. His body was later recovered from Nallah Bishlari near the same location, indicating that he had been murdered and dumped there by the assailants.

The DFP spokesman, advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Such actions raise serious questions about accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.”

‎The loss of young lives under such circumstances, he said, was not only tragic but also reflects a disturbing pattern that demands impartial investigation and justice.

‎”The repeated occurrence of such incidents reveals a grim pattern of systematic killings that are too often ignored, leaving victims without justice and families without answers”, he said adding that there was a dire need to investigate such killings and bring perpetrators to justice.

‎He also expressed grave concern over the continued incarceration of party president Shabbir Ahmed Shah and other Kashmiri political leaders and activists currently languishing in Indian jails.

‎”Prolonged detention without fair and transparent legal processes undermines democratic principles and suppresses legitimate political expression”, he added.

‎Urging Indian authorities to ensure credible, independent inquiries into these incidents, the spokesman said that those responsible must be held accountable to stop this vicious cycle of violence in the region.

‎He reiterated his party’s call for peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute, saying that justice, dialogue, and respect for human rights remain essential for lasting peace and stability in the region.

‎Meanwhile, the DFP spokesman also voiced serious concern over the ailing father of incarcerated Engineer Rasheed and urged the Indian government to release him on humanitarian grounds so that he could meet his father, currently admitted at a hospital in Srinagar.
