Dalit wedding attacked in UP over Ambedkar songs, several injured

Sambhal: Tension gripped Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district after a Dalit wedding procession was attacked for playing songs dedicated to Dr B. R. Ambedkar, leaving 8 to 10 people injured.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred under Baniyather police station when the procession reached the village. Bride’s father Tejpal alleged a group of men stopped the DJ, objected to Ambedkar songs, and started assaulting people.

The clash turned violent with sticks used.

Videos showed chaos as people fought while others watched from rooftops. Police said an FIR has been registered against five named accused based on Tejpal’s complaint.

Acting station in-charge Roshan Singh said, “We are investigating and efforts are being made to arrest the accused.”
