India 5th most spam-hit nation globally as commercial calls plague users

New Delhi: India has emerged as the fifth most spam-affected country in the world, with sales and telemarketing calls driving the bulk of unwanted traffic, according to a Truecaller report.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the data from Truecaller’s global user base of 500 million showed that more than 68 billion spam and fraud calls were identified worldwide in 2025. Indonesia topped the global list, followed by Chile, Vietnam, and Brazil, with India ranked fifth.
India recorded a spam intensity of 66 per cent.
The report noted a strong commercial bias in India’s spam calls. Sales and telemarketing accounted for 36 per cent of all unwanted calls, financial services made up 18 per cent, while scams contributed 12 per cent.
