Bihar, Maharashtra, UP top India in violent crimes, reveals official data

New Delhi Bihar, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh topped India in violent criminal incidents in 2024, with all three states recording a huge spike in cases, according to a National Crime Records Bureau report.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Bihar reported 1,07,303 incidents of violent crime in 2024, about 105 per cent more than 52,165 cases in 2023.
Maharashtra logged 87,791 incidents, up nearly 89 per cent from 46,249 in 2023, while Uttar Pradesh recorded 85,647 cases, a 73 per cent rise from 49,453 in 2023. The NCRB data said Uttar Pradesh topped overall crime registered under IPC and BNS with 4,30,552 cases in 2024.
Maharashtra stood second with 3,83,044 cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 2,82,874 cases. Meanwhile, Manipur, where ethnic violence erupted in May 2023, saw violent crime incidents fall drastically by 89 per cent from 14,427 in 2023 to only 1,614 in 2024, the report added.
