Soura medical institute students protest ‘unrecognised’ B.Sc degree

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a group of students from Soura Institute of Medical Sciences staged a protest in Srinagar against non-recognition of their B.Sc Medical Technology degrees outside the institute, leaving nearly 250 graduates struggling to secure jobs and professional registration.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesting students said the course was introduced by Soura institute and admissions were conducted through the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE). However, they said that after completing the programme, they discovered the degree lacked registration with the relevant authorities, making them ineligible for jobs outside the institute.

“We secured seats through BOPEE and joined the course at the institute. Later, we came to know that the course is not registered and the degree is not considered valid for posts outside the institute,” one of the students said.

The students complained that despite repeatedly approaching, the administration over the past several years, no concrete steps had been taken to regularise or register the course with concerned bodies, including the Allied Health Council.

Many graduates were denied employment opportunities after employers termed the degree invalid due to the absence of proper recognition and registration, they said.

“We have been fighting for the last six to eight years to make our degrees eligible for jobs outside the institute, but nothing has happened so far,” another student said.
