Over 3,000 Italian apple trees cut down by unknown persons in Budgam

Srinagar: More than 3,000 Italian apple trees were reportedly cut down by unknown persons in the Rangeen Kultreh area of Chadoora, Budgam district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident has left orchard owners and local residents devastated, as years of hard work, investment, and hope appear to have been destroyed overnight.
Apple cultivation is not just a source of income for many families in Kashmir—it is a way of life. These young orchards represented the dreams and future livelihoods of farmers who spent years nurturing them. The sight of rows of damaged and cut trees has caused deep emotional distress among affected families, including women, men, and children.
Local authorities have taken cognizance of the matter, and police have registered an FIR to investigate the incident.
Residents are demanding a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.
The farming community hopes justice will be served and that such incidents do not occur again, as they not only affect individual families but also impact the region’s horticultural sector and economy.
