NIA attaches another civilian property under UAPA in Baramulla
Srinagar : India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday attached two plots of a civilian land in Baramulla district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
According to Kashmir Media Service, officials said the plots measuring 7.5 marla, 2,050 sq ft, and 6 marla, 1,632 sq ft, located in Kanispora area belong to Shaheen Ahmad Lone.
The attachment was carried out based on an order issued by a NIA court in Jammu.
Property attachment under UAPA has become a routine measure used by Indian agencies against Kashmiris accused of militancy-linked charges, often without conviction.
Earlier on Tuesday, the New Delhi-imposed administration seized immovable properties of two persons in Srinagar district. The administration confiscated a three-storey residential house at Nundresh Colony in Srinagar belonging to Sikander Firdous. In a separate similar operation, a single-storey house owned by Ghulam Hassan Butt was seized in Kral Khud area of the district. The value of the confiscated properties has been estimated at around INR 80 lakh and INR 70 lakh respectively.
Critics say such seizures add to the economic pressure and collective punishment faced by families in the occupied territory.
