Two more Kashmiris arrested under draconian laws in IIOJK

Srinagar : Indian police have arrested two more Kashmiris under different pretexts in Pulwama district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), continuing the authorities’ campaign of arbitrary detentions in the occupied territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Suhail Farooq Lone, a resident of Nigeenpora Reshipora in Tral, was booked under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to District Jail Bhadarwah. Police alleged that he had provided logistical support to ‘militants’ operating in the area.
In a separate action, Manzoor Ahmad Mir, a resident of Kadlabal, Pampore, was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
To justify the detentions, officials claimed that both arrests were carried out after obtaining orders from the competent authority under the respective preventive detention laws.
It is worth noting that Indian authorities frequently invoke draconian laws to detain Kashmiris without trial on various pretexts. The aim is to suppress dissent, instill fear among the local population and stifle their demand for the UN-recognized right to self-determination. Over 3,000 Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders, political activists, youth, scholars and human rights defenders, are currently languishing in different Indian and IIOJK jails, with many facing prolonged detention without fair trial.
