IIOJK: MMU decries India’s ban on Agha Hassan, Masroor Abbas’ visit to Iran

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU) has expressed deep concern over the BJP-led Indian government’s decision to prevent Hurriyat leaders and senior religious figures, including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi and Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, from travelling to Iran to attend the funeral prayers of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Shaheed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement in Srinagar, the MMU said that Agha Syed Hassan was stopped by immigration authorities at New Delhi airport, where his passport and other travel documents were confiscated. It added that Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari was also unable to attend the funeral ceremonies after being denied a passport.
The MMU said preventing religious scholars and leaders from discharging their religious and social responsibilities was highly regrettable. It maintained that such actions hurt religious sentiments, create unnecessary anxiety among the people and violate the spirit of religious freedom.
The statement further said that besides refusing to issue a passport to Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, the authorities had confined him to his residence during the sacred month of Muharram, preventing him from addressing Friday congregations and other religious gatherings, as well as discharging his religious and institutional responsibilities.
The MMU urged the Indian authorities to immediately review these restrictions and allow all religious leaders to perform their religious and social responsibilities without intimidation or hindrance.
