APHC calls for shutdown on July 13 to remember 1931 martyrs

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir to observe shutdown on 13th July (Monday) to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of 22 Kashmiris who were killed by Dogra armed forces within the premises of Central Jail, Srinagar, on 13 July 1931.

According to Kashmir Media Service, these martyrs were part of thousands of people who had assembled outside the Central Jail, Srinagar, during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked the people to defy the Dogra rule. At the time of Namaz-e-Zuhr, a young man started calling Azaan and was shot dead by the Dogra soldiers. Another youth took his place and he too was martyred by the Dogra forces. Thus, 22 youth sacrificed their lives till the completion of Azaan.

The APHC spokesman, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the freedom-loving Kashmiri people to march towards the Mazar-e-Shuhada, Naqshband Sahib, Srinagar, to pay tributes to the martyrs and deliver a message to the civilized world that the people of Kashmir believe in a peaceful resolution of the lingering dispute as promised by the United Nations Security Council through its resolutions.

The statement said that the Bharatiya Janata Party Indian government and its imposed LG regime had silenced the political voice, snatched rights and deprived Kashmiris of their identity through use of brute force after 5th August 2019 when the Modi regime repealed the special status of occupied Kashmir and bifurcated it into union territories.

The Indian BJP government led by Modi systematically paved the way for settling non Kashmiris in the territory and in this connection issued domicile certificates to non-locals after abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A.

The APHC urged release of thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners, including Hurriyat leadership and said the objective of the shutdown and a march towards the martyrs’ graveyard at Naqshband Sahib, Srinagar, is to convey a message to the world that the Kashmiris have never accepted Indian occupation and its illegal military presence in the territory.
