MMU expresses strong outrage over sale of pork products in IIOJK
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), an amalgam of several religious bodies in the territory, has expressed strong outrage and concern over the sale of pork products on a quick commerce platform in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU, headed by senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said in a statement that screenshots shared by the public had come to its notice showing that pork products were being listed for sale on Blinkit online delivery platform in the Kashmir valley, describing the matter as deeply regrettable and unacceptable.
The statement said it is well known that the sale and consumption of pork is strictly prohibited in Islam and Muslims are highly are highly sensitive to the issue. It questioned how such products had been allowed to be marketed in Kashmir and called for a thorough investigation by the authorities. The MMU urged that those responsible be dealt with strictly and issued a strong warning.
The MMU demanded that Blinkit immediately remove all pork-related products on quick-commerce platform and sales listings and ensure that such products are neither stocked, advertised nor sold in Kashmir in the future.
The statement further said that all companies and commercial establishments operating in Kashmir must fully respect the territory’s religious, cultural and social sensitivities and conduct their business activities with responsibility and due caution.
