India violating fundamental human, political and religious rights in IIOJK: DFP
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Democratic Freedom Party has said that Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory whose final status remains to be determined in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Democratic Freedom Party spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said India was flagrantly violating the fundamental human, political and religious rights of the people in the occupied territory. He said restrictions on religious freedom and suppression of the political leadership could in no way contribute to resolving the dispute.
The spokesman called upon the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and international human rights organizations to take urgent notice of the continued restrictions on religious freedom in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He strongly condemned the continued house arrest of senior Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar and preventing him from going to the Jamia Masjid to offer Friday prayers. He urged the Indian authorities to immediately end his house arrest, lift all restrictions on religious activities, restore the fundamental rights of all political and religious leaders, and ensure that the people of IIOJK are able to exercise their religious, political and civil liberties freely and without fear.
Advocate Arshad Iqbal said lasting peace, justice and stability in Jammu and Kashmir would be possible only when the Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
