India’s global image continues to decline
Islamabad: India’s global image continues to deteriorate, with 50 percent of Americans holding a negative view of the country.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a recent survey shows a decline in positive perceptions of India and a rise in negative sentiment. The deterioration in India’s image has been linked to discrimination against Muslims, internet restrictions and the government’s actions against critics.
The survey, conducted across 36 countries, found that an average of only 45 percent of respondents viewed India positively, while 41 percent expressed a negative opinion. In contrast, a survey conducted in 23 countries just three years earlier showed 46 percent holding a positive view and 34 percent a negative one.
In the United States, the decline in favourable views of India is particularly pronounced. The latest figures show that 45 percent of Americans view India positively, while 50 percent hold a negative opinion. This is among the lowest levels recorded since 2008, when nearly two-thirds of Americans had a favourable view of India.
The negative perception is even stronger among young Americans, with 56 percent expressing an unfavourable view of India, highlighting the growing deterioration in the country’s international image.
