Missing Kashmiris’ families still await return of dear ones: Safi
Islamabad: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and other Hurriyat leaders have said that families of missing Kashmiris continue to await information about and the return of their loved ones missing after being taken into custody by Indian forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued on the International Day of the Disappeared, they expressed serious concern over enforced disappearances and urged India to provide immediate information about the missing Kashmiris and ensure that all detainees are allowed to meet their families in accordance with law.
The Hurriyat leaders called on the UN Secretary-General, UN human rights bodies and international rights organisations to take notice of the grave human rights violations in IIOJK and press India to uphold international law.
They said enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, custodial deaths, arrests and other abuses continue in the territory, stressing that such repressive policies cannot suppress the Kashmiris’ struggle for their right to self-determination.
The leaders urged the UN and international human rights organisations to conduct impartial investigations into rights violations and the cases of missing persons in IIOJK, and play an effective role in ensuring the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
