Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has paid tribute to senior Hurriyat leader and intellectual Professor Abdul Gani Butt on his first death anniversary, recalling his wisdom, scholarly and intellectual abilities, and lifelong commitment to dialogue and peaceful engagement.

An affectionate elder, dear friend and guide, whose wisdom, intellect and gentle humour I deeply miss. His steadfast belief in dialogue and peaceful engagement, even in the most difficult times, remains part of his enduring legacy. May Almighty Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous.”
Professor Abdul Gani Butt also served as chairman of the Muslim Conference in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He served as chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in 1993 as well. The occupation authorities dismissed him from his teaching position as a professor for his pro-freedom activities.
