‘Kashmir set on fire since Aug 2019 with nobody to douse the flames’

Srinagar: Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been set on fire since August, 2019 by Narendra Modi-led Hindutva government with nobody to douse the flames and end injustices in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this was said in a statement by the Srinagar-based Institute and Documentation Centre (IDC) Chairman Prof Farhan Ali while giving his opinion about the deteriorating situation in IIOJK.

He said that after 5th August 2019, with the unceremonial, unconstitutional and undemocratic abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by the Hindutva BJP govt led by Narendra Modi, Kashmir has been set on fire with nobody to douse the flames. He said that the political, constitutional and geographic status of IIOJK was not only disturbed but eclipsed against the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This is never acceptable to the Kashmiris though silence of graveyard has been created in IIOJK, he said.

He said that constant cordon and search operations, house raids and crackdowns since 5th August 2019 should never be construed as an acquiescence as the state repression has increased multifold with unexplainable magnitude and gravity.

He said thousands of Kashmiris including Hurriyet leaders, youth, journalists, HR and other activists, including Massrat Alam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sufi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Syed Shahid Yousuf Shah, Syed Shakeel Yousuf Shah, Bilal Siddiqi, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Ameer Hamza, DrHameed Fayaz, Abdul Ahmad Parra, Noor Muhammad Fayaz, Fahim Ramzan, Hayat Ahmed Butt, Rafiq Ahmed Shah, Showket Hakeem, Advocate Zahid Ali, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Rafiq Ahmad Ganai, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo, Umar Adil Dar, Shabir Ahmed Dar, Firdous Ahmed Shah, Jahangir Ghani Butt, Saleem Nanaji, Sajad Hussain Gul, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Shamsuddin Rehmani, Fayaz Hussain Jaferi, Adil Siraj Zargar,•Dawood Zargar, Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh, Burhan Ahmed Sofi, Irfaf Ahmed Khan, Bilal Ahmed Butt, Sarjan Barkati, Shabroza Bano, Aafreena Ganie, Nigeena Manzoor, Munira Begum, Safeeqa Begum, Ishrat Rasool, human rights defender Khurrum Parvaiz, journalist, Irfan Majeed, Sajad Ahmad Dar have been lodged in different jails of India and IIOJK. Most of them have been put behind the bars in faraway jails in India.

“The structural disempowerment of the people of J&K is a continuing process resulting in institutional breakdown. There is no legislative forum in J&K while the judiciary has been rendered a state friendly institution to serve the ends of the executive authorities at the cost of justice to the people”.

He pointed out, “Neurological surveys depict that vast majority of the people of IIOJK have obtained psychiatric problems. The properties and houses are seized, employees are being terminated from their services, free speech and freedom of press is the worst casualty in this region which has rendered the common man voiceless and helpless”.

The IDC chairman Prof Farhan Ali said that no cosmetic measures could overturn the internal and external gravity of the Kashmir dispute. He appealed to the UN, EU and OIC to impress upon the Indian government to restore the basic rights of the people of IIOJK and respect their aspirations and sentiments.
