Russian skier dies in avalanche, adding 120 to deadly toll in IIOJK since 2021
Srinagar: One Russian skier has lost his life in a tragic incident in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the severe consequences of government neglect and insufficient facilities in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the skier died in the avalanche occurred on Thursday near Gulmarg town, a renowned destination known for its stunning landscapes. An official confirmed the devastating event, emphasizing the dangers posed by the avalanche sweeping through the peaks surrounding Gulmarg.
This latest fatality adds to a grim tally of deadly avalanches in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with over 120 individuals losing their lives since 2021.
Last year, a similar tragedy befell two Polish skiers, while 19 others narrowly escaped after an avalanche struck the peaks adjacent to Gulmarg in February.
The tragic loss of life underscores the urgent need for greater attention to safety measures and improved infrastructure in the territory.
