Congress seeks early Assembly elections with statehood


Jammu: Demanding immediate announcement of restoration of statehood before Assembly polls, the occupied Jammu and Kashmir chapter of Indian National Congress urged holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in occupied Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a meeting of the party was held under the chairmanship of former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand while President of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir chapter of Indian National Congress Vikar Rasool Wani was the chief guest to discuss the preparations and strategy for elections.

The Congress leaders and members held threadbare discussions on various aspects of the elections to Lok Sabha and Kashmir Assembly. It held threadbare discussions on the current political scenario and hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party for claiming credit for the Prime Minister’s rally for which the LG administration mobilized the entire Government machinery and employees for the success of the official rally which is being claimed as BJP rally.

It was for the first time that mobilization of the official machinery of such levels was done as there was low public response in view of the failures of the administration. on various fronts and to deliver its last promises to various sections of people and youth.

The meeting questioned the Prime Minister for not uttering a word for the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially Jammu region, in the last elections. The Prime Minister deliberately avoided mentioning the most popular demands of people for restoration of statehood and democracy as well as promises made to the unemployed youth, farmers, refugees daily wagers contractual and other categories of temporary employees, it deplored.

The meeting viewed that the people are fed up with the BJP government for the wrong policies with regards to youth, farmers, employees, pensioners and the common man who are facing the brunt of wrong policies, especially on the economic front, pushing the common and poor people to great economic distress and state of joblessness.
