Indian forces kill 3 people in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Indian troops killed three people in the disturbed Chhattisgarh state in India.
The Indian troops killed three people during military search operation near a hill deep inside the forest ahead of Koylibeda village of Kanker district. The police dubbed the three slain people as the Communist Party of India (Maoist) guerrillas.
The family members of the deceased have said they were not Maoists and the encounter was fake. They were killed in custody, the family added.
As reported by Indian media, a number of Indian army and police camps have been established recently in Kanker district and that anti-Naxal operations have been stepped up.
The Indian government has deployed more than 100,000 troops – a third of them paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh. More than 3,000 people have been killed in the state since 1995.
The Maoists and Marxist movements active in many Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra have been demanding independence from the Indian hegemony since 1947.
