Amit Shah blasts Nehru for taking Kashmir issue to UN

Jodhpur: Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has criticized former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for his handling of the Kashmir dispute, accusing him of “blunders” in implementing Article 370 and taking the issue to the United Nations. Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abrogating Article 370 in August 2019.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a fiery election rally in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, Amit Shah, however, did not mention Nehru’s right to self-determination commitment to the Kashmiri people.

Shah’s remarks also focused on Nehru’s implementation of Article 370, which granted special status to the occupied territory, and his correspondence to the Pakistani leadership regarding the Indian leadership’s pledge to resolve the Kashmir dispute, in 1948.

“Former PM Jawaharlal Nehru committed a blunder by implementing Article 370 in Kashmir,” Shah asserted, drawing applause from the crowd. He went on to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abrogating Article 370 in August 2019.

Shah also blamed Nehru for taking Jammu and Kashmir issue to the United Nations and a ceasefire with Pakistan. His comments come amid ongoing tensions over the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. India and Pakistan have fought several wars over the territory, and it remains a major source of conflict between the two countries.
