CPI-M IIOJK boycotts Lok Sabha elections in protest against BJP’s tyrannical rule

The Communist Party of India-Marxist has announced its decision to refrain from contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The move aims to consolidate votes and defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to the Kashmir Media Service, CPI-M leader M Y Tarigami stated that the BJP is imposing dictatorship and infringing upon the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people. He emphasized the party’s objective to remove the BJP and its “tyrannical” governance.

Tarigami urged other political parties to unite to prevent vote division. He stressed the importance of defeating the BJP and safeguarding the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The CPI-M’s decision aligns with the strategy of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), a coalition of political parties in Jammu and Kashmir. The PAGD has criticized the BJP’s policies, including the revocation of Article 370.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place in India from April 11 to May 19, 2024.
