BJP has turned entire IIOJK into a prison: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has criticized Narendera Modi led Indian government’s claims of normalcy in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, citing the closure of historic Jama Masjid on Jumat-ul-Wida and putting senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.

According to Kashmir Media Service, talking to media persons at Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar, Mehbooba Mufti expressed resentment over closure of historic Jama Masjid and house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. She expressed deep concern about the future of Muslims in India in light of such measures by the BJP government.

Mehbooba highlighted the ongoing actions initiated by the BJP post-August 5, 2019, asserting that they contradict the BJP’s claims of normalcy in the region. Instead, she argued, the BJP has imposed draconian measures, effectively imprisoning the entire populace of Jammu and Kashmir. “The claims of BJP falls flat that there is normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, instead they have turned the entire region into a prison,” Mehbooba added.

“Jamia Masjid, a symbol of our heritage, remained shut. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq remains under house arrest. Mosques are being demolished, and Madrasas are being shut. Muslims are being subjected to violence and coerced into adopting beliefs contrary to their own. Such a climate of intolerance poses a grave threat to the Muslim community,” Mehbooba said.

She underscored her apprehensions regarding the escalating hostility towards Muslims and the perceived danger it poses to their future.
