PDP vows to continue fight for restoration of IIOJK’s special status
Srinagar: The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to reinvigorate its struggle for peace and dignity in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, committing to the use of all democratic and constitutional measures to address the Kashmir dispute, including the restoration of the territory’s special status.
According to Kashmir Media Service, this resolution was adopted during the party’s general council meeting, chaired by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar. The party reiterated its foundational principles, pledging to fight for the restoration of occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, which was revoked on August 5, 2019.
“We resolve to reinvigorate our struggle for peace with dignity for Jammu and Kashmir, using all democratic and constitutional methods to resolve the Kashmir issue. This includes the restoration of the special status that was enshrined under the Constitution of India,” the PDP said in its resolution.
he party voiced concern about the increasing climate of hatred against Muslims across India and urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take decisive action to curb violence and foster communal harmony.
“The rising hostility towards Muslims is alarming,” the resolution stated, adding, “We call upon the Prime Minister Modi to dispel false narratives, curb judicial overreach, and address the targeting of Muslims.”
Highlighting the plight of political prisoners, the PDP called for a review of their status and the release of individuals detained on “weak or non-existent charges.”
“We demand the immediate release of political prisoners and advocate for transferring them back to [occupied] Jammu and Kashmir to ensure justice and family connections,” the resolution added.
The party once again urged the Indian government to address the disempowerment and deprivation caused by the revocation of Article 370.
“The unconstitutional revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional rights continues to deprive and humiliate the people. We call upon the Modi government to restore these rights and address the deep grievances of the populace,” the PDP concluded.
