247 people arrested from different districts of Manipur
Imphal: The police have arrested 247 people from different districts of the Indian state of Manipur.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the police have arrested 247 people for violating various provisions of the Indian Penal Code during raids and search operations in sensitive and difficult areas of the state.
On the other hand, the series of violent incidents that started eleven months ago in Manipur continues and thousands of people affected by the violence are still living in temporary camps.
Two-phase elections for the Lok Sabha polls in the state have been announced. In the first phase voting will be held on April 19 and in the second phase, voting will be held on April 26.
However, the people living in the camps have announced a boycott of the Lok Sabha elections, saying, “Why should we vote, the elections are meaningless for us.”
They say that the right to live is essential before the right to vote in the elections and law and order is more important than voting, so they will not vote.
The affected people added that the government has failed to ensure their right to live with dignity. Most of the people said that their houses were burnt in front of their eyes and they were living in relief camps. It’s all drama and the election has no meaning for them, they maintained.
