Post-Eid Surge: 60% of Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital admissions linked to road accidents

Srinagar: In the aftermath of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in the Kashmir valley, Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital has witnessed an alarming trend, with a staggering 60% of cases admitted within the past 24 hours attributed to road accidents.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this revelation comes as a stark contrast to the grand promises of development and enhancement of road infrastructure proclaimed by the Narendra Modi-led Indian government. The stark reality underscores significant shortcomings in the implementation of these pledges, exposing the Kashmiri population to unnecessary risks on the road.

Renowned Doctor, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Saleem, has sounded the alarm over the surge in accidents during festive periods. Dr. Saleem emphasized the urgency of safety measures, especially for the younger population, urging strict adherence to traffic regulations and the mandatory use of helmets while riding.

Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Dr. Saleem underscored the significance of responsible driving behavior, particularly during celebratory occasions like Eid. He issued a poignant call to the youth to prioritize safety on the roads.

Taking to social media, Dr. Saleem disclosed that the surgery department at SMHS Hospital had attended to a staggering 1155 patients within the past day, with 56 requiring admission. A significant portion of these cases comprised victims of road accidents, shedding light on the pressing need for comprehensive improvements in road infrastructure alongside personal caution and responsible driving practices.
